A Hollyhock Festival

Hollyhock (futaba-aoi) is the sacred crest of Kyoto’s Shimogamo Shrine. Since the Heian period (794-1185), the shrine has held a Hollyhock Festival each May in which floats decorated with hollyhock leaves wind through the streets. This Japanese motif, treasured since ancient times as a plant connecting humanity and the divine,is woven in bright colors to create a clutch bag that also complements casual outfits.
