Circles with six indentations are traditional Japanese stylizations of snowflakes. Here, they are combined with rabbit designs imported from China along with legends of the rabbit that lives in the moon. The rabbit’s fecundity makes it a symbol of fertility, while its hopping gait makes it a symbol of leaping forward. Like snow, which brings rich blessings to the seasonal Japanese landscape, it is traditionally considered an auspicious motif. These pure white rabbits frolic amid colorful snowflakes make a fine gift to celebrate weddings, birth, graduations, and promotions.
